Summer to Fall Transition Pieces

Idk about you... but I can already smell marshmallow pumpkin candles in the air and taste pumpkin spice in my coffee! Fall is SO CLOSE. I'm not fully ready to commit yet though because of this horribly hot weather. Nice weather at Bucknell makes it about 10x harder to face the reality that summer is over and school is back in business. It also makes walking around campus incredibly miserable and sweaty. By the time I've made it to my classes, I'm sweaty but already developing goosebumps from the inside AC.

In the spirit of this weird summer/fall in-between period, I wanted to talk about some of my favorite summer to fall transition pieces! These are all 2022 fall wardrobe must-haves in my opinion. We are all about layering in these weird hot but cold times!

The oversized button-up has been a wardrobe staple for the past couple of months but it is NOT going away people. This piece is such a great transitional piece because it's amazing for layering. You can throw this over a plain tank and it will make your outfit so much classier and trendier. It will also keep you cold indoors or outside once the weather chills out.

You can throw a button-up over a basic tank with biker shorts or jeans. You could throw it over a one-piece body suit with sneakers. You could even wear it buttoned with one side tucked in and one side tucked out. You could layer it under a sweater or under a heavier coat. The possibilities are literally limitless with a classic piece like this. Since I wear mine constantly, I'd definitely say it's worth investing in a quality button-up. This oversized one from Abercrombie has been my FAV.

Okay hear me out... I've been seeing light trench coats EVERYWHERE. I had a young girl stop in for a tour this summer and she was wearing a trench tied back with a black tennis dress and sneakers and looked so adorable. Since then, I've been seeing them everywhere and had to get my own.

Similar to the button-up, it's a great piece for layering. You can throw this on over literally anything for some extra warmth once it starts to cool down. I can't wait to wear it with a knit sweater, jeans, and UGGs!!!! Wearing it with a tennis dress or one-piece bodysuit would be adorable and make it a little more casual while it's still warm. I'll be styling this all fall long so get used to me talking about trench coats!!

I've been obsessed with putting together outfits to wear with my overalls. While it's still hot, you can easily wear these with a tank or tube top for a trendy summer look. This definitely gives you a step up from a classic pair of jeans. Overalls are so easy to style with the weather. As it gets colder, just bump up what you wear underneath. Tank top to tee, tee to sweater, sweater to turtleneck! So simple and endless possibilities.

If you have any sort of social media account, you've been seeing these one-piece bodysuits everywhere. I wore mine all summer when I wasn't at work. It's so nice to throw on a full outfit with one item! Obviously wearing it plain is a little boring! I style mine with a button-up, jean jacket, or even oversized tee. This is going to be a great staple to have during the transition period from summer to fall. This would be perfect paired with the button-up or trench!

If you were around last year, you know that flared leggings popped tf off. They are back again and great for transitioning. They definitely have more of a put together look than a classic pair of leggings IMO. The Aerie crossover ones are my favorite too- they're sooo flattering. You can style these with a tank top, tee, sweatshirt, sweater, or literally anything else. I am probably going to wear my flares with a tank, button-up, and baseball hat this fall.

My new fav Amazon set! I swear I say that every time I discover a new Amazon set... but that's just because they keep getting better! This set is an elevated and "more fall" version of the classic striped sets I wore all summer. I wore this on the first day of classes last week! It is so easy to throw on, so comfy, and so trendy.

You could wear it unbuttoned with a tank underneath, buttoned and untucked, buttoned and half tucked (my go-to), or fully tucked. You could even wear the top and bottom separately for even more options. This set is so fun to accessorize and I love the unique material. The little frill on the edges just makes it 100x cuter. Amazon has some really great colors and some with long pants too. I am totally going to have to grab a pair!

These UGGs. RUN. Get a pair immediately. UGGs literally fly off the shelves and they just restocked all of them for fall. I got this pair and I'm already so obsessed. They are the platform style, which I feel like really flatters my legs more than regular. I love the little red lining and they are so comfy. These are great for this transition time because they're still your classic and cozy UGGs, but they are slip-ons and will last all season! Trust me on this one.

These Birkenstocks are also so in right now. I was seeing them alllll over Pinterest. I had a pair of these (the Mudd brand though) back in like 2012 when they were not cute at all. My mom HATED them but I loved them. I am so happy to see that the rest of society has finally come around to love these shoes like I did back in the day! 🥰 I was totally ahead of you bitches on this one.

These are literally sold out everywhere, but my mom found some left at Bloomingdales. They still have some sizes left so hurry up and get them now! Everyone loves a good pair of slides for transitional weather.

My go-to accessory: a baseball hat. I have NY Yankees and LA Dodgers hats in probably every color. I get mine on Amazon and love the neutral colors or reds/greens for fall. I wear mine when my hair is cute, when it's a mess, at the gym, and to class. I wear hats with everything and I think finding one in a "fall" color is a great (and fun!) way to transition from summer.

I get all of mine on Amazon and I always get the '47 brand hats. These fit me the best and are my favorite style. A good quality hat like this will be able to stay in your closet year-round.

If you need some fall inspiration, I started a fall 2022 Pinterest board! I just scrolled through and I'm pretty sure all of these items are all throughout my pins already. I love fall fashion and I really hope to do a lot with it this year!

I hope I inspired you to collect some of these items for the summer to fall transitional period! I have such a hard time usually with the hot weather lingering and my desire to wear sweaters and jeans and UGGs! I can't wait for colder weather, but here's how to dress until then. ;)
